There have been many cleft lip and cleft palate patients reported in the state of Odisha. Due to disfigured face, many of these patients are undergoing social stigma, mental trauma and are not able to enjoy life to its fullest potential. Also this condition affects consumption of their daily food and thereby affecting normal physical growth of the patient since childhood. Many of these untreated cases are found in tribal communities of Odisha. Majority of such patients are not aware about the availability of corrective measures or surgeries to rehabilitate them physically and socially. Even if someone makes them understand about the corrective surgeries, patients are not able to bear cost of the surgery and forced to remain untreated.
To help these patients with corrective surgeries and rehabilitation process, JVGCT has supported up-gradation of existing infrastructure at S. S. B. Hospital at Bhubaneswar to “Maxillo Facial Surgery Centre”. Many such patients have been operated for corrective surgeries at this centre with no cost to patients. Each surgery costs `15,000 - 20,000 per patient, per surgery. As off now more than 450 such patients are awaiting corrective surgeries. We encourage benevolent contributions from corporates, NGOs and individuals to sponsor this cost of surgery.
